Windows 10 has been out for a while and most users assume that all is well. Many computers that shipped with Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1 were offered a “free” upgrade to Windows 10. Many entry level computers that came out in 2012 and later with the older system built in may be in for a not so nice surprise in 2018 according to SofTech Computers in Prescott.
When owners of these 2012 and later computers were given the option to upgrade to Windows 10, it was sort of a no-brainer because the Windows 8 and 8.1 operating system had a number of irritating bugs and the Windows 10 was cleaner and much easier to use.
Unfortunately, some of these computers are unable to install the Windows 10 Creator Update. When the users try to run the update, they get the message: “Windows 10 is no longer supported on this PC”.
But don’t panic, that does not mean the computer will stop operating. People will still be able to use their machines if they get this message, but it means they will not be getting future security and program patches making them vulnerable to bugs and potential security holes. They will be stuck at update version 1607 of the operating system and will lose Microsoft support next year.
To add insult to injury, if these users had not accepted the free update to Windows 10, their system would continue to be supported through 2023. Microsoft says they are working on this problem, so the hope is that it will be accomplished soon.
